Towson coach accused of offensive remarks

TOWSON, Md., Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Towson University football Coach Rob Ambrose verbally abused players and broke NCAA rules on practice time, a former player says.

Fifth-year senior Trevor Walker, who left the team last week, told the school newspaper, The Towerlight, Ambrose inaccurately reported practice times in logs submitted to Towson's compliance office. He also said Ambrose and defensive coordinator Matt Hachmann made offensive comments to players.

The Towerlight reported the allegations made by Walker and another former player who spoke only if his name wasn't revealed.

Sports Network reported a Towson athletics department spokesman said the college had no comment on the school newspaper's reporting.

Ambrose was named the 2011 Eddie Robinson Award winner as FCS coach of the year after the Tigers won last year's CAA football title one year after finishing in last place.

Towson is off to a 3-4 start this season, including 2-2 in the CAA.
