Notre Dame lands top prep quarterback

SOUTH BEND, Ind., Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Indiana prep quarterback Gunner Kiel has switched his commitment from Louisiana State to Notre Dame, Fighting Irish Coach Brian Kelly said Tuesday.

Kelly announced the highly sought recruit has begun attending classes at Notre Dame after originally picking Indiana and later committing to LSU.

Kiel, named Indiana's Mr. Football last year, hurled for 2,517 yards and 28 touchdowns, and rushed for 11 more scores for his high school team in Columbus, Ind.

"There were three critical elements I was looking for in my future school: the quality of education I would receive, the distance from home and the comfort level I would have with the players and coaches in the football program," Kiel said in an issued statement.

"Notre Dame was the perfect fit for me because it hit all three areas."
