HATTIESBURG, Miss., Nov. 13 (UPI) -- Blake Bortles nearly rallied Central Florida to a win Saturday but his 2-point conversion pass failed and No. 23 Southern Mississippi salvaged a 30-29 victory.

Bortles brought UCF to within a point when he hit J.J. Worton for a 25-yard leaping reception as time expired.

But the Knights decided to forgo kicking the extra point and instead went for the win with a 2-point try that fell short, handing the Golden Eagles (9-1, 5-1 C-USA) an eighth straight win for the first time since 1958.

Austin Davis racked up 366 aerial yards with two scores and Danny Hrapmann booted five field goals in the victory.

Bortles finished with 248 yards and two TD passes with one interception for the Knights (4-6, 2-4).
