NCAA suspends Florida football player

INDIANAPOLIS, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- The NCAA announced Thursday Florida defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd had been suspended an additional game due to rules violations.

An investigation by the NCAA revealed Floyd had received $2,500 in cash from a Florida booster, which the Florida player used for living expenses. That is against NCAA rules and the school suspended Floyd for last weekend's season-opener against Florida Atlantic.

The NCAA added a game to that suspension and Floyd will sit out Saturday's contest against Alabama-Birmingham.

Floyd will not be allowed to play until he makes a charitable donation that matches the amount he received in violation of NCAA rules.

"It is important to note that Sharrif brought this matter to our attention and we reported the facts to the NCAA this past February," Florida Athletic Director Jeremy Foley said. "Sharrif has been extremely forthcoming throughout the process and the NCAA has commented on his honesty and openness."
