COL BKB: Notre Dame 79, Duke 77

SOUTH BEND, Ind., Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Eric Atkins' double-double of 19 points and 11 assists Saturday powered Notre Dame to a 79-77 upset of No. 8 Duke in the Fighting Irish's first ACC game.

Pat Connaughton provided 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists for the Irish (10-4, 1-0 ACC), who pulled out a win in their first contest as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Garrick Sherman added 14 points, including a key basket late in the game, as Notre Dame notched a fifth straight home win over a Top 10 opponent.

Rodney Hood struck for 27 points and Quinn Cook added 22 for the Blue Devils (11-3, 0-1), who fell to the Irish for just the third time in 22 all-time meetings.

High-scoring freshman Jabari Parker was limited to seven points on 2-of-10 shooting.
