Astronaut trial postponed

ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 13 (UPI) -- A Florida judge has postponed the trial of former astronaut Lisa Nowak after her attorneys said they planned to use insanity as a defense.

Nowak, 44, faces up to life in prison on charges of attempted kidnapping and burglary with assault after she allegedly drove from Houston to Orlando (Fla.) International Airport in February last year to confront a woman she saw as her rival in a love triangle involving another astronaut, the Orlando Sentinel said Wednesday.

The trial was scheduled to begin Sept. 24 but Orange County Circuit Judge Marc Lubet has granted a request by the state for postponement.

The Orange County Clerk of Courts Web site said new dates would be set when the 2008 judicial calendar is distributed.
