In 2016-17, the Kristianstad, Sweden, native collected one goal and four assists in 19 games with Rogle BK (SHL), one assist in five games with Timra IK (Allsvenskan) and seven points (five goals, two assists) in 12 games with Rogle BK J20 (SuperElit).

Liljegren participated in the Maple Leafs' development camp at MasterCard Centre in Toronto this week.

"We saw exactly what we thought we would -- an outstanding skater, great poise out there," Toronto general manager Lou Lamoriello said.

Liljegren is expected spend the 2017-18 season either back in Sweden or with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.
