Deteroit Red Wings' Luke Glendening out 3-4 months after ankle surgery

Detroit Red Wings center Luke Glendening is expected to be sidelined three to four months after undergoing successful surgery on his left ankle to repair tendon damage on Monday, the team announced Tuesday.

The 28-year-old Glendening's procedure was performed by Dr. Don Bohay in Grand Rapids, Mich.

"The surgery was done to repair an injury he suffered late in the season," Red Wings executive vice president and general manager Ken Holland said in a statement. "We hoped he would improve with rest and immobilization, but we decided at this point that surgery was necessary to make sure he is ready for the 2017-18 season."

Glendening missed the final seven games of the 2016-17 season after sustaining a fractured ankle and partially torn tendons. The four-year veteran had three goals and 11 assists over 74 games.

Detroit snapped its streak of 25 consecutive playoff appearances after finishing 33-36-13 last season, second-to-last in the Atlantic Division.
