PITTSBURGH -- Sunday's Pittsburgh Penguins-Boston Bruins game at PPG Paints Arena was delayed in first period because of damaged ice.

After Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask froze a puck with 6:26 left in the opening period, the game was initially delayed for a television stoppage. Arena employees attempted to repair a patch of ice along the boards near the Penguins' bench, but it took so long that officials sent the teams to their respective locker rooms and opted to begin the first intermission early.

An ice repair in a different spot on the rink surface briefly delayed the game only 1:28 into regulation.

The remainder of the first period was to be played along with the second action resumed. The game was scoreless at the time of the stoppage.
