Boston Bruins' plane diverted after shooting in Fort Lauderdale

The Boston Bruins' plane was diverted to Miami International Airport on Friday because of a shooting at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

Five people were killed and eight wounded after an arriving airline passenger with a gun in his luggage opened fire before surrendering to authorities.

"The thoughts and prayers of the Bruins' organization are with the victims of today's shooting and the entire Fort Lauderdale community," the team said in a statement.

The team's charter flight landed in Miami at 5:05 p.m. as Boston (20-17-4) prepares to open a four-game road trip against the Atlantic Division-rival Florida Panthers (16-15-8) on Saturday (7 p.m. ET).
