ALBUQUERQUE, Feb. 23 (UPI) -- Cameron Bairstow netted 26 points Saturday and New Mexico caught No. 7 San Diego State atop the Mountain West Conference with a 58-44 victory.

Bairstow grabbed eight rebounds and Kendall Williams supplied 10 points and seven assists for the Lobos (21-5, 12-2 MWC), who won for the ninth time in 10 games.

Winston Shepard paced the Aztecs (23-3, 12-2) with 10 points with six rebounds.

San Diego State fell to 2-1 since its 20-game winning streak was broken Feb. 11 against Wyoming.
