Three Delaware basketball players suspended

NEWARK, Del., Jan. 29 (UPI) -- Three University of Delaware basketball players have been suspended for violations of athletic department policies, the school said Wednesday.

Jarvis Threatt and Marvin King-Davis were removed from the men's team for one month and women's basketball team member Shanice Johnson was given a similar penalty.

"This athletics department has very high and very clear expectations of our student-athletes," said Delaware Director of Athletics Eric Ziady. "When these expectations are not met there will be certain and consistent consequences. Our student-athletes will take ownership of the decisions they make both on and off the court."

The nature of the incidents that led to the suspensions wasn't detailed.

Threatt, a junior guard, is second on the Delaware team in scoring, averaging 17.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. King-Davis, who appeared in all 21 Delaware games this season, averaged 5.8 points and 4.4 rebounds a game.

Johnson, a freshman forward, was averaging 7.9 points and 6.1 rebounds over 17 games.
