HAMILTON, Mass., March 25 (UPI) -- Michael Carter-Williams, playing for Syracuse's Sweet 16 team in the NCAA Tournament, learned after a game his Hamilton, Mass., home was destroyed in a fire.
After the contest Saturday in San Jose, Calif., in which Syracuse beat California, he was informed by his mother, attending the game, his longtime home burned to the ground.
"It's a traumatizing time. Everyone was safe, thank God," said his aunt, Jennifer Carter.
The two-story house was home to Carter-Williams, his twin stepbrothers, a stepsister, his mother and stepfather, The Boston Globe reported Monday.
Firefighters from Hamilton and seven neighboring municipalities extinguished the fire after 2 1/2 hours, a statement from the Hamilton Fire Department said.
