WASHINGTON, Nov. 30 (UPI) -- Markel Starks put Georgetown ahead by a point with 4:12 to play Friday and neither team scored again in the 25th-ranked Hoyas' 37-36 win over Tennessee.
In a fierce defensive battle, the teams combined to make just 31-of-90 shots from the field.
Tennessee had an 18-16 lead at halftime and then rallied from a seven-point deficit in the second period to take a 36-35 advantage on Trae Golden's jumper with 4:26 to go.
Starks answered for Georgetown, after which Tennessee had four missed shots and three turnovers the rest of the way.
Both Skylar McBee and Jordan McRae missed 3-point attempts for Tennessee in the final 3 seconds.
Neither team had a player in double figure scoring.
Georgetown improved to 5-1 with Mikael Hopkins, Otto Porter and Greg Whittington all producing eight points. Skylar McBee and Golden also had eight for Tennessee (4-2).
