Kilicli went in for a layup, but his shot was blocked against the glass by Baye Moussa Keita of Syracuse with 6.2 seconds left. The play could have been called goaltending, thus awarding the tying points to the Mountaineers, but no call was made.

The Orange (22-1, 9-1 Big East) hung on for the win when Kevin Jones' shot from 3-point territory at the buzzer was off the mark.

Kris Joseph added 13 points and seven rebounds for Syracuse.

West Virginia (15-7, 5-4) was led by Jones with 20 points.
