COL BKB: Syracuse 87, Providence 73

PROVIDENCE, R.I., Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Brandon Triche hit 4-of-5 from 3-point range and helped break open a close game Wednesday to bring No. 1 and unbeaten Syracuse an 87-73 win over Providence.

The Orange held only a two-point halftime lead before pulling away to their 16th win in as many games this season. Three of the victories have come in Big East Conference play.

Syracuse remained one of four unbeaten teams in college basketball. Murray State stayed unbeaten Wednesday with a victory over Eastern Kentucky, and Missouri and Baylor have perfect records as well.

Triche scored 16 points and was one of six Syracuse players in double figures. Kris Joseph and Dion Waiters both had 13 points for the Orange.

Vincent Council and Gerard Coleman led Providence (11-5, 0-3) with 17 points each.
