'Blue Is the Warmest Color' takes Palme d'Or at Cannes

CANNES, France, May 26 (UPI) -- "Blue Is the Warmest Color" won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes festival in France and its two stars were awarded a share of the prize with their director .

Jury President Steven Spielberg announced the prize would go -- in a first for the festival -- not only to the director of the lesbian love story, Abdellatiff Kechiche, but also to its costars Adele Exarchopoulos and Lea Seydoux, the Los Angeles Times reported.

French actress Berenice Bejo, a best supporting actress Oscar nominee for "The Artist," won the best actress prize at Cannes Sunday for her performance in Asghar Farhadi's "The Past."

American actor Bruce Dern won the best actor prize for his performance in director Alexander Payne's "Nebraska," and Joel and Ethan Coen won the Grand Prize -- essentially the second prize at Cannes -- for "Inside Llewyn Davis."
