BHUBANESWAR, India, March 26 (UPI) -- A court in southeastern India sentenced a man to death Tuesday for the rape and murder of an elderly woman two years ago, a prosecutor said.
Mishro Parija, 25, was convicted of raping the 60-year-old woman in a cattle-grazing field, beating her to death and taking her body to a cremation ground, Indo-Asian News Service reported.

The court heard from 18 witnesses during his trial.
He is the second man in the Indian province of Odisha to receive a death sentence for rape and murder.
Friday, a court in Jharsuguda sentenced a 22-year-old man to death for killing a minor girl and then having sex with her dead body, IANS said.
