2 die in Yemen clashes

TAIZ, Yemen, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- Yemen remains a cauldron of political unrest with violent clashes leaving at least two people dead in Taiz, officials said Sunday.

Although Yemeni Vice President Abdu Rabbo Mansoor Hadi, who now holds power as acting president, has called for a cease-fire, the confrontations between the political opposition and government supporters have not ended, Bikyamasr.com reported. Gunfire broke out, hitting and killing a woman and child hiding in a building.

Fears are growing in the country that the transfer of power from President Ali Abdullah Saleh's regime to a new coalition government could fail, the news Web site said.

Saleh did transfer power to Hadi, but Hadi has yet to take steps toward reconstructing the country's government. Hadi was supposed to set up a Military Committee within five days of taking power, which has yet to happen.
