Octuplet mom says she paid for new house

LA HABRA, Calif., March 11 (UPI) -- The mother of California octuplets says she herself has paid for a new house in La Habra, Calif., and will move in within days.

Nadya Suleman, the octuplets' mother, told the "Dr. Phil" television show Tuesday that she, and not her parents, is leasing with an option to buy a four-bedroom, three-bathroom home on a suburban cul-de-sac, the Orange County Register reported.

Suleman told the show that she obtained the money for the $565,000 home from selling pictures of the octuplets, the newspaper said.

Realtor Mike Patel, who represented the sellers of the home, had previously said that Suleman's father, Ed Doud, was buying the house.

Witnesses said Suleman's arrival at the home Tuesday drew a crowd that swarmed around her, with people snapping cell phone photos and holding out their kids, apparently as a way to show that they, too, were parents, the Register reported.
