Russian writer compares Putin to Hitler

PERM, Russia, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- A journalist in Perm, Russia, may be prosecuted for an article he wrote that compared Russian President Vladimir Putin to Adolf Hitler.

Igor Averkiyev, 47, who is a Lichnoye Delo newspaper editor, was called to the Leninsky District Prosecutor's Office to answer questions regarding his article "Putin Is Our Good Hitler," The Moscow Times reported.

The article, which appeared in the newspaper Za Cheloveka in December, compared Putin's eight years of presidency to Hitler's early rule in Nazi Germany, the report said.

The article reads, "like Hitler, Putin is the savior of the Fatherland, the guardian of greatness, stability and order."

Prosecutors began investigating Averkiyev after a telecommunications service reportedly claimed the article broke laws against extremism.

Averkiyev is one of several journalists to be questioned and possibly prosecuted for writing what may be considered insulting depictions of Putin, the newspaper said.
