SMU likely Bush presidential library site

DALLAS, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- A final decision has yet to be made on where the George W. Bush presidential library will be located, but officials are reportedly leaning toward Dallas.

The Los Angeles Times reported Saturday that Laura Bush's alma mater, Southern Methodist University, likely will be the institution that houses the library, beating out Baylor University and the University of Dallas.

A final decision is expected in late January or early February.

SMU, the Times said, enjoyed the status of favorite since Mrs. Bush is an SMU graduate and a member of the school's board of trustees. Vice President Dick Cheney also served on the board.

The Bush presidential library could cost more than $200 million, but will be financed through private donations.

It will be the third presidential library in the Lone Star State. The others are the Lyndon Johnson library at the University of Texas at Austin and the George H.W. Bush library at Texas A&M University.
