Foley lawyers speak with archdiocese

MIAMI, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Miami said it has spoken with attorneys for former U.S. Rep. Mark Foley about revealing a priest Foley accuses of molestation.

No date was given for revealing the name of the priest, who Foley claims abused him almost 40 years ago. Archdiocese spokeswoman Mary Ross Agosta said the church would release the name publicly as soon as Foley gives it to them, the Palm Beach (Fla.) Post reported Wednesday.

Agosta said church policy is to reveal the name of an accused priest and ask for other possible accusers to step forward.

Foley's attorney claimed the former Republican congressman had been abused by a priest after he was revealed to have exchanged sexual electronic messages with teenage male pages.

Two Roman Catholic dioceses released a letter Oct. 5 calling for Foley to reveal the name of the accused priest.

Gerald Richman, a lawyer for Foley, said the former official had decided to name the still-living priest who had allegedly abused him between the ages of 13 and 15.
