WASHINGTON, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- An Ohio Republican in a tough re-election battle wants to know if former U.S. Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fla., tried to enter the dorm where congressional pages live.

Deborah Pryce, chairwoman of the House Republican Conference, asked the House Clerk to look into a report that within the last few years Capitol Police stopped an intoxicated Foley from entering the Page Residence Hall, The Hill, a Washington newspaper, reported.

Pryce says she learned of the possible incident during a conference call with GOP members. During the same conference call, she says there were other rumors that need to be addressed.

"While the details of these rumors are vague, they are very serious allegations and they deserve your full attention and thorough investigation," Pryce wrote in a letter to House Clerk Karen Haas, The Hill said.

Pryce's Democrat challenger, Marty Jo Kilroy, posted a media account on her Web site calling Foley "one of (Pryce's) five friends in Washington.
