Leading the demonstrations over the last few weeks was losing candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, who lost by 240,000 votes to Felipe Calderon. A partial recount has indicated little change in the overall figure

The leftist Lopez Obrador maintains that the election was stolen by the center-right Calderon, who hails from the same party as current President Vicente Fox.
