Corzine drops ties with Goldman Sachs

TRENTON, N.J., Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Sen. Jon Corzine, D-N.J., a candidate for New Jersey governor, has ended any financial ties to Goldman Sachs, the company that made him a multi-millionaire.

Aides announced the end of his relationship with Goldman Sachs after two critics accused the Democrat of conflict of interest Tuesday, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

Corzine spokeswoman Ivette Mendez said he is even giving up stock options.

"It would be the whole kit and caboodle," she said.

Corzine formerly served as Goldman Sachs CEO. His campaign for governor has been plagued with embarrassing revelations, including a $400,000 gift some years ago to his then-girlfriend, who happens to be president of the largest state employee union.

Recent polls show Corzine leading Republican Doug Forrester, another millionaire businessman, but his lead was shrinking.
