Bob Hartley is out as head coach of the Calgary Flames. Hartley, 55, was the Jack Adams Trophy winner as NHL Coach of the Year in 2015 but after missing out of the playoffs the Flames made a change. He had a 134-135-25 record with the Flames.
The decision was made Tuesday, and general manager Brad Treliving also cut ties with associate coach Jacques Cloutier.
Hartley won the Stanley Cup in 2001 as coach of the Colorado Avalanche and coached the Atlanta Thrashers from 2003-2007.
Calgary was 35-40 with seven overtime losses last season. The Flames own the sixth overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft.
It's possible Hartley would get immediate consideration for the Ottawa Senators coaching job. He's from the region and when the position was open in 2008, he interviewed with the team.
