Stanford's Tara VanDerveer became just the second women's Division I coach to reach 1,000 career victories Friday night when the No. 8 Cardinal beat USC 58-42 Friday on Stanford's home court.

VanDerveer joined the late Pat Summitt, who died last summer from early-onset Alzheimer's disease, with 1,000 victories. Summitt recorded 1,098 wins.

VanDerveer is in her 31st season at Stanford. She began her coaching career at Idaho in 1978. From 1980 to 1985 she coached at The Ohio State University before heading west to Palo Alto.

Duke's Mike Krzyzewski is the only Division I men's coach with at least 1,000 victories.
