New York college round ball player charged with sexual abuse

NEW YORK, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- A basketball player at a private New York college has been charged with sexual abuse of a 21-year-old woman, police say.

Sheldon Hagigal, 20, is the fifth member of the St. Francis College team to face criminal accusations, the New York Post reported Tuesday.

Police charge Hagigal exposed himself to a woman on Jan. 5 and demanded oral sex. She escaped and reported the incident several days later.

Another member of the basketball team, Anthony White, was charged last week with assaulting and choking his girlfriend in her dormitory room.

White and three other players were suspended after the woman said she also had been sexually assaulted. Charges against two of the players were later dropped and their suspensions lifted, police said.
