NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J., April 8 (UPI) -- Rutgers will investigate its men's basketball program and how it handled video evidence of abusive behavior by Coach Mike Rice, university officials said.

An outside investigator will be appointed to lead the inquiry, The New York Times reported Monday.

Rice was fined and suspended after a 30-minute video, that showed him verbally and physically abusing players during practice was reviewed by school officials in December.

After portions of the video were broadcast last week on ESPN, Rice was fired and three others in the athletic department resigned.
