COL BKB: Drake 74, Creighton 69

DES MOINES, Iowa, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- Richard Carter's layup capped off a late five-point run Wednesday that lifted Drake to a 74-69 victory over No. 12 Creighton.

Drake let all of a 16-point halftime lead slip away and the Bluejays tied it at 64-64 before the five-point surge in the final 5 minutes put the Bulldogs back in charge.

Creighton fell out of a share of the Missouri Valley Conference lead, slipping one game behind No. 21 Wichita State.

Carter led Drake with 18 points off the bench while Jeremy Jeffers had 13 points for the Bulldogs (9-10, 3-5 MVC).

Doug McDermott paced Creighton with 21 points and six rebounds. Creighton is 17-3 for the campaign and 7-2 in league play. Its only other conference loss has come against Wichita State.
