
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Anthony Bennett and Khem Birch both had double-doubles Thursday and No. 24 Nevada-Las Vegas closed the first half strong in a 74-52 win over Chicago State.
UNLV (12-2) had a 10-0 run, capped by a 3-point shot from Justin Hawkins, midway through the first half for a 23-11 lead. The Rebels pushed the advantage to 39-21 by halftime, with a closing 8-2 spurt that Bennett started and finished with field goals.
Bennett was 7-of-11 from the field in totaling 22 points and he also had 11 rebounds. Birch scored 13 points and collected 12 rebounds. Their combined 23 rebounds matched the Chicago State team total.
Katin Reinhardt added 12 points and Carlos Lopez-Sosa 11 for UNLV.
Chicago State (4-13) was led by Jamere Dismukes, who had 13 points, and Matt Ross, who scored 11. The Cougars fell to 1-10 on the road this season.
