Boeheim reiterates support for ass't coach

NEW YORK, Nov. 22 (UPI) -- Syracuse head basketball Coach Jim Boeheim Tuesday reiterated his support for assistant Bernie Fine, who has been hit with child abuse accusations.

Boeheim voiced strong support for his longtime assistant last week when former ball-boy Bobby Davis, now 39, accused Fine of molesting him "hundreds of times" in the 1980s and the '90s.

Boeheim called Davis' allegations "a bunch of a thousand lies" and again said he supported Fine Tuesday in New York as the fifth-ranked Orange (4-0) prepared to take part in Wednesday's semifinals of the NIT Season Tip-Off, The (Syracuse) Post Standard reported.

After first refusing to talk about Fine, Boeheim told reporters, "Again. I made one statement. I think it was the right statement. I don't need to repeat it. Everybody's seen it.

"We have to see what happens. I support Bernie. As I said, I've known him for 50 years. If something else happens that surfaces, some factual things, I'll have to adjust to that."

Fine has vehemently denied Davis' accusations, as well as those of fellow ball-boy and step-brother Mike Lang, who alleged in an interview with ESPN that Fine also abused him.

Fine has been placed on administrative leave during an investigation.
