PITTSBURGH, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- A career-high, 28-point effort by senior guard Casper Ware Wednesday sent Long Beach State to a surprising 86-76 victory over ninth-ranked Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh had won 58 consecutive home games against non-conference opponents.
The Panthers shot almost 50 percent from the floor and missed only one of 14 free-throw attempts, but still could not stay with the fast-paced and hot-shooting 49ers.
Four of Long Beach State's starters were in double figures, sending the 49ers to a 45-36 halftime lead. Pittsburgh came no closer than six points during the second half.
Ware made 10-of-18 shots from the field and was backed up by 19 points from James Ennis, 12 from Larry Anderson and 11 from T.J. Robinson. Long Beach State, which made 59 percent of its field goal tries, has won both its games this season.
It was Long Beach State's first win over a Top-10 foe in 28 years, having last pulled off such a feat with a triumph over No. 1 Kansas.
Pittsburgh (2-1) was led by Ashton Gibbs with 20 points and Nasir Robinson with 19.
