Stricker among those on Ryder Cup team

NEW YORK, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- World No. 10-ranked golfer Steve Stricker was among four players added Tuesday to the U.S. team for the 2012 Ryder Cup.

U.S. Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III tabbed Stricker, Jim Furyk, Dustin Justin and Brandt Snedeker to be on the 12-player U.S. team.

The Ryder Cup, a biennial tournament sending teams from Europe and the United States against each other, is scheduled for Sept. 28-30 at the Medinah Country Club in Illinois.

Eight players had automatically qualified for the U.S. team. They are: Keegan Bradley, Jason Dufner, Zach Johnson, Matt Kuchar, Phil Mickelson, Webb Simpson, Bubba Watson and Tiger Woods. Watson won the Masters this year and Simpson claimed the U.S. Open while Woods had won three PGA tournaments this year.

The European team, led by Jose Maria Olazabal, was finalized last week. Its members are Nicolas Colsaerts, Luke Donald, Sergio Garcia, Peter Hanson, Martin Kaymer, Paul Lawrie, Graeme McDowell, Rory McIlroy, Francesco Molinari, Ian Poulter, Justin Rose and Lee Westwood.

Europe won the 2010 Ryder Cup 14 1/2-13 1/2 but the United States has claimed the competition 25 times in the 38 tournaments.
