QUITO, Ecuador, March 23 (UPI) -- Ecuador warned Colombia that diplomatic tension would be renewed if it is discovered any Ecuadorians were killed when Colombian forces entered the country.

An Ecuadorian family has claimed a family member was among those killed when Colombian troops entered Ecuador March 1 to kill a known Colombian rebel hiding in the country, El Comercio reported Sunday.

Colombian forces killed rebel commander Raul Reyes and more than two dozen members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, during the incursion.

The Colombian military action came without Quito's permission, setting off a diplomatic firestorm that prompted both Ecuador and Venezuela to temporarily sever diplomatic relations with Colombian and send troops to their borders.
