Georgia officials capture a lost emu

THOMSON, Ga., Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Georgia officials backed up two lanes of traffic while capturing a lost emu on the interstate, a report said.
Numerous agencies, including the State Patrol and Columbia County's Animal Control responded to calls after several drivers reported the Australian bird in Columbia County, Morris News Service reported Thursday.
Animal Control officers reportedly helped to contain the emu, which is second to the ostrich as the world's second-biggest bird.
"They surrounded it in the median -- with a lot of caution because Emus will hurt you. It kicked so hard in the truck that the latch on the truck broke. It was actually very well handled," Emergency Director Pam Tucker said of Wednesday's incident.
The Columbia County Emergency Services Department said the three-toed animal will be put up for adoption if the owner isn't found within five days.
