B&W continues U.S. nuclear support

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Feb. 5 (UPI) -- The U.S. military has awarded $510 million in contracts to Babcock & Wilcox Nuclear Operations Group Inc. for components and services to defense projects.

The Babcock & Wilcox Co., the parent of B&W NOG, said work will include the manufacture of naval nuclear power systems for submarines and aircraft carriers.

More than $445 million in work is the result of exercised options under a $2 billion contract awarded to B&W NOG in 2010, while more than $65 million of comes under a new agreement.

"B&W NOG is pleased to continue to provide components and services to the U.S. Naval Reactors Program through these new contracts," said Peyton S. Baker, president of B&W NOG. "We are honored to have such an important role in supporting the defense of our nation."

Work under the awards will be performed over eight years at facilities in Virginia, Ohio and Indiana.
