Navy orders nuclear power components

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Feb. 10 (UPI) -- The Babcock and Wilcox Nuclear Operations Group reports a second order for nuclear power components for the U.S. Navy under a contract awarded in 2010.

The order is for the manufacture of components to support a number of U.S. defense programs, including power systems of the country's air craft carriers and submarines.

The types of components covered under the order weren't disclosed but Babcock and Wilcox said the order carries a value of $600 million, which was funded in the fourth quarter of last year.

Babcock and Wilcox Nuclear Operations Group said the new order, when combined with a previous award for nuclear fuel, increases the value of its fourth-quarter bookings to $777.6 million.

"We are pleased to receive this additional work and continue B&W's ongoing support of U.S. defense programs," said B&W NOG President Peyton S. Baker. "We look forward to continuing to provide reliable and technologically advanced nuclear products that play an important role in our nation's security."
