VALPARAISO, Chile, March 14 (UPI) -- A major forest fire is threatening the coastal city of Valparaiso, Chile, and thousands are evacuating.

Around 800 acres have been affected by the fire, and over 4,000 people have been evacuated. The interior ministry says as many as 10,000 others may have to move as well.

The fire started Friday evening at an illegal garbage dump, and a state of emergency was declared for Valparaiso and Viña del Mar.

Another forest fire in April of last year caused serious problems in Valparaiso. Over 500 were injured and almost 3,000 homes were destroyed at that time.

The fire has injured three firefighters thus far, and a 67-year-old woman has died.
