Sexual assaults doubled from last year's Oktoberfest in Munich

MUNICH, Germany, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- There have been 12 cases of sexual assault at Munich's Oktoberfest so far, up from six at this time last year, police said.

Authorities said they are investigating two of of the incidents to determine whether the incidents constitute rape, The Local.es reported.

Two men have been charged with sexual assault, and there have been two cases of domestic violence, authorities said.

One of the cases involves a man who assaulted a woman who had passed out on a park bench, The Local.de reported.

A group looking out for the safety of female attendees has cared for 83 people at the event, representatives said.

Many of the women who ask for help have become separated from family or need help getting home.
