8 soldiers killed in blast in Tunisia near Algeria border

TUNIS, Tunisia, July 30 (UPI) -- Eight Tunisian soldiers were killed and three soldiers were injured in two attacks at the country's border with Algeria, officials said.

Tunisia President Moncef Marzouki said on his Facebook page Monday eight soldiers died in one attack Monday occurred on Mount Chaambi, about 185 miles from Tunis, CNN reported.

In the other attack in the same area, three members of a security patrol were injured when a landmine exploded, officials said.

In his Facebook comment, Marzouki blamed Islamic militants and extremists for the violence.

He announced three days of mourning for the victims.
