12 people killed in separate incidents in Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan, July 18 (UPI) -- Militants killed eight Afghan civilians employed at a NATO military center near Kabul and four policemen in two incidents Thursday, authorities said.

In the first attack, gunmen targeted the eight workers as they were on their way to work at the military center in Logar near the Afghan capital, Khaama Press reported.

Provincial security chief Raees Khan Sadiq Abdul Rahimzai eight workers died in the attack, the report said. Other details were not available.

In the other incident, militants ambushed a police check post in northern Kunduz province, killed four police personnel and wounded another person, police told Xinhua News Agency.

The attackers fled the scene after the incident, senior police official Sahleh Mohammad told Xinhua.

No group claimed responsibility for either of the attacks.
