Paris prosecutors consider charges in fatal skinhead clash

PARIS, June 8 (UPI) -- A Paris prosecutor said a preliminary investigation was under way into the death of a left-wing activist killed in a street brawl with a group of skinheads.

Prosecutor Francois Molin said Saturday the primary suspect in the case, known only as Esteban, would be investigated for possible charges of voluntary manslaughter in the death of 18-year-old Clement Meric.

Meric suffered fatal head injuries in a street brawl Wednesday between skinheads and anti-fascist students near Paris' Sant-Lazaire railroad station.

Radio France Internationale said it was at first thought Meric struck his head when he fell to the pavement, but Molin said Saturday further analysis showed Meric was fatally injured after he was on the ground.
