Man pleads guilty to manslaughter of pedophile

BIRMINGHAM, England, May 24 (UPI) -- A young Englishman was allowed to plead guilty Thursday to the manslaughter of a convicted pedophile killed in an arson fire at his home.

Prosecutors accepted Daniel Martin's version of Andrew Heath's death, the Daily Mirror reported. Martin, 24, said he did not intend to kill the 52-year-old when he firebombed his Worcester apartment in 2011.

Martin's sentencing was scheduled for July in Birmingham Crown Court.

Heath was convicted of five incidents involving sex with teenage boys and spent time in jail in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Williamson, who was in charge of the investigation into Heath's death, welcomed the plea, the Worcester Standard reported.

"This will save Andrew Heath's family the rigors of a trial and they also welcome Martin's guilty plea," he said.

Three Worcester residents -- Teresa Martin, 44, Sarah Martin, 26, and Matthew Davies, 28 -- have been charged with perverting the course of justice. They are scheduled to appear in court in June.
