26 Mubarak-era figures banned from travel

CAIRO, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- The Egyptian prosecutor-general has imposed a travel ban for ousted President Hosni Mubarak and 25 other Mubarak-era figures.

Mubarak, his wife Suzanne Thabet, his sons Alaa and Gamal and his step-daughters are among the 26 people Prosecutor-General Talaat Abdullah has banned from leaving the country, Ahram Online reported.

Former minister of legal affairs and parliamentary councils, Mofid Shehab; former health minister, Hatem El-Gebali; and Ibrahim Nafee, the former chairman of the state-owned Al-Ahram news organization, are also on the list.

Nafee allegedly authorized giving costly gifts from the news organization to various Mubarak regime figures while he was in control from 1984 through the start of the country's 2011 revolution.

"Posh watches, golden pens, golden coins, ties, diamond jewelries, leather bags and belts were among the gifts," said Hassan Yassin, a spokesman for the prosecutor-general.

Others on the list are banned for various corruption accusations.
