Drone strike kills 8 in northwest Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, May 28 (UPI) -- At least eight people died Monday in a suspected U.S. drone airstrike in Pakistan's North Waziristan area along the Afghanistan border, officials said.

Security officials said five missiles struck a vehicle and a house in Mir Ali, about 15 miles from Miranshah, North Waziristan's main town, Pakistani news agency INP reported.

The news outlet said it was the third such attack in North Waziristan Agency -- considered a safe haven for insurgents -- during the past four days in which at least 30 people have died and scores of others were injured.

A security official said the identities of the dead were not known, but that the area "was known for harboring Uzbek, Arab and other foreign militants."
