Pakistan nurses seek pay hike

KARACHI, Pakistan, March 28 (UPI) -- Dozens of nurses and nursing students seeking higher pay were prevented from entering Governor House in Karachi, Pakistan, Wednesday, police said.

Several of the protesters were injured when police used batons and water cannons to stop them from advancing, Dawn News reported.

Police said many of the protesters were taken into custody for entering a high-security zone.

The Provincial Nurses Association of Sindh, along with the Pakistan Nursing Federation announced a strike and a boycott of government-run hospitals in Karachi and across Sindh province.
