MANILA, Philippines, Nov. 15 (UPI) -- Former Philippines President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and her husband were stopped Tuesday night from leaving the country, Filipino immigration officials said.

Arroyo, who arrived at Manila International Airport from St. Luke's Medical Center in an ambulance and was then placed in a wheelchair, was attempting to board a flight to Singapore for medical treatment, GMA News reported.

The Supreme Court earlier Tuesday had blocked the government from enforcing watch list orders put in place to prevent Arroyo from fleeing the country to evade criminal charges. Government officials, however, said the watch list orders would not be released until the government receives a copy of the Supreme Court's decision.

Arroyo's attorney Ferdinand Topacio said the government was failing to respect the Supreme Court. "This is against any norm of human decency," he told GMA News.
