BEZIERS, France, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- A math teacher at a secondary school in France has died after setting herself on fire on the playground in front of her students, officials said.
Students rushed to the aid of the 44-year-old teacher, who had doused herself with gasoline and set herself alight on the playground of a school Thursday in Beziers in the south of France, Radio France Internationale reported Friday. She was flown to a hospital in Montpelier, where she later died, the BBC said
The incident occurred the day after a combative meeting with students at the Lycee Jean Moulin who complained she was too strict, the BBC reported.
French Education Minister Luc Chatel said he was shocked by the woman's "desperate act" and said an investigation was under way.
